Traveling to Santa Maria, California my mother, to visit family and friends, we decided to all go to the La Purisima Mission Historic Park, near Santa Barbara county.
One of the local attractions was the La Purisima Mission. It was founded on December 8, 1787. A major earthquake on December 21, 1812 destroyed many of the mission buildings.
However, they were able to restore most of the grounds. The mission has ten of the original buildings fully restored and furnished. To this day, they still have many activities that are held at the Mission, even stepping back in time with costumed re-enactments portraying the people who lived at the La Purisima Mission. They were able to save some of the table settings that were used during that time, and still keep live stock still living on the premises. I thoroughly enjoy stopping and exploring many of our California historic parks on my travels.
You never know when you will pass that way again. We had a nice time was a good day to learn a little about the local culture.
